You may be surprised to realize how fragrance impacts skin aging. Dennis Stolpner shares an unexpected secret anti-aging tip, originally shared by beauty influencer Michelle Silva on TikTok.

Does Perfume Age Your Skin?

It’s a claim recently being made by a beauty influencer on TikTok. Michelle Silva posts videos on the platform with the intention of educating the public about anti-aging tips, tricks and advice. At the young age of 47, she looks fantastic! But, is her recent advice regarding fragrance far-fetched?

In a recent TikTok video, Michelle discusses fragrance application. Specifically, she talks about how spraying perfume on your neck can accelerate the skin’s aging process. Michelle explains that the alcohol in perfumes and fragrances is what is to blame here. Naturally, the alcohol dries up the areas of the skin that it comes into contact with. According to the beauty influencer, this speeds up aging and can even create wrinkles! Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine Specialist Dennis Stolpner cosigns on the notion that alcohol can accelerate skin aging. But there may be more to consider.

Many perfumes and fragrances do contain small amounts of alcohol. Others contain much more, as many manufacturers utilize Isopropyl Alcohol as a base. However, these are not the only options out on the market! Dennis Stolpner personally encourages the readers of his anti-aging blog series to check the ingredients of their skincare products. It is possible to avoid scent sprays that contain alcohol. This eliminates the cause for concern. But Stolpner reminds readers to not stop there.

Unless you opt for skincare products made from organically sourced materials, you are likely applying similarly based lotion, moisturizer, body wash, lotion, soap and so much more. Fragrances are in more than just your perfume, so be sure to seek options that do not contain heavy alcohol content in general. Furthermore, the amount of alcohol contained in sprayable scents is hardly enough to dry out the skin in such a way that wrinkles will inevitably form. Provided that you do not saturate your neck in perfume and practice proper hygiene afterwards, you should be fine!
