What is Rapamycin? An Anti-Aging Expert Explains
Dennis Stolpner is a board certified Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine Specialist in California and Florida. In this week’s edition of his anti-aging and skincare series, Stolpner discusses rapamycin, also known as sirolimus.
Rapamycin is an immunosuppressant medication that has been on the market since 1999. In the now more than two decades since its Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval, Rapamycin has gone largely under the public’s radar. But it’s been quite the large blip on the screen of researchers of life longevity and anti-aging! In fact, for nearly 10 years, researchers have been tapping into the drug’s ability to increase life expectancy. They’ve already modeled this in mice and other organisms, with successful results.
Recent research points to the potential of anti-aging benefits of rapamycin in humans. A new study is testing the waters on whether or not taking the immunosuppressant in small doses could have life longevity effects, if consumed in early adulthood (ages 18 to 30). But, it may not be what you think… This approach to anti-aging isn’t about physical appearance; it’s about reducing the possibility of age-related diseases, like dementia, hearing loss, cataracts and other health complications. Dennis Stolpner believes that this could be monumental, if effective!
